Mexico and Argentina suspend poultry imports from Brazil

Mexico and Argentina have implemented sanitary measures to restrict poultry imports from Brazil following a confirmed outbreak of Newcastle disease in the municipality of Nova Itaberaba, Santa Catarina.

In Mexico, the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) has suspended the entry of poultry meat, offal, fertile eggs, chicks up to three days old, songbirds, ornamental birds, commercial raptors, and pets. This restriction applies to both commercial imports and products carried by tourists.

In Argentina, the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) has reinforced control measures to prevent the entry of avian goods that may pose a sanitary risk. To maintain trade continuity, SENASA is applying a zoning strategy based on mutual recognition agreements established in 2025. This allows for the continued movement of products exclusively from zones confirmed to be free of the disease, supported by technical and epidemiological information exchange.
