Mexico and Chile unveil housing initiatives for firefighters and civil protection staff

In Puebla, Mexico, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier announced a state housing program that will build approximately 4,000 homes with an investment of 2 billion pesos. The plan includes a three‑hectare parcel devoted to housing for firefighters, fire brigade personnel and Civil Protection staff, integrated with the Infonavit Lomas de San Miguel development and linked to the national housing‑for‑well‑being strategy.

In Chile, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism, led by Minister Iván Poduje, presented a bill to amend the General Law of Urbanism and Constructions so that fire‑station construction no longer requires a building permit, mirroring the exemption already granted to police stations. The proposal also adds a fiscal‑land emergency‑simulator centre and funding to renovate fire stations classified as critical under the “Improvement of Housing and Neighborhoods” program.
