Argentina Malvinas Law faces legislative delays

The legislative progress of the National Sovereignty Defense Law in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies has slowed following a failure to reach agreements for a report on October 20. The plenary session of the Defense, Criminal Legislation, Foreign Relations, and Cult commissions has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 27.

Opposition members, including former Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana, suggest that the slowdown may be linked to shifts in U.S. political stances under Donald Trump, noting that Washington maintains a position of neutrality despite the Argentine government's alignment. Concerns have also been raised regarding the potential impact of the law on U.S. companies.

If a report is achieved, October 28 remains the final potential date for a floor debate before the legislative calendar becomes saturated in November. The upcoming month is expected to be dominated by discussions regarding the 2027 Budget, alongside potential disruptions from religious holidays and the U.S. midterm elections.
