Mexico and Dominican Republic introduce AI regulation bills to safeguard users and data

Deputy Gabriela Jiménez Godoy of Mexico's Morena party called for AI regulation to protect users and children, stressing that AI tools should remain under human oversight. She advocated for mandatory notification when AI influences decisions such as medical diagnoses, watermarking of AI‑generated media, and a registration system for mobile SIM cards to curb extortion, while insisting the measures would not restrict freedom of expression.

Dominican deputy Vicente Sánchez, chair of the Chamber's ICT commission, submitted a Personal Data Protection Bill aimed at modernizing the country’s legal framework against AI‑driven risks. The proposal creates a National Agency for Data Protection, seeks tools to quickly address deepfakes and digital disinformation, and aligns Dominican law with international privacy standards, giving citizens mechanisms to defend their personal data and reputation.
