Mexico and Spain ramp up mosquito control measures to prevent disease

In Hidalgo, Mexico, the National Water Commission (Conagua) carried out fumigation in the town of La Piedad, Alfajayucan, applying insecticide around the Rojo Gómez reservoir to reduce adult mosquitoes and larvae. The operation was coordinated with the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control (Cenaprece) and involved local residents and municipal and federal authorities.

In Don Benito, Spain, the municipal government approved a Municipal Vector Surveillance and Control Plan to lower the risk of West Nile virus transmission. The plan continues preventive actions begun in the spring, includes regular larvicide treatments, adult mosquito control by the Extremadura Health Service (SES), and promotes natural predators such as bats and swallows.

Both initiatives aim to strengthen vector control, protect public health, and involve cooperation between local, regional, and national agencies.
