Mexico and U.S. advance toward new trade agreements
Mexican Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer during the G20 Trade Ministers' meeting in Milwaukee to discuss bilateral trade and new agreements. Ebrard stated that both nations are making progress toward resolving pending issues and establishing new commercial frameworks.
Ebrard emphasized that Mexico maintains a privileged position regarding access to the U.S. market compared to other G20 economies. He noted that despite shifts in Washington’s trade policies, Mexico is expected to retain its advantageous standing. However, challenges remain, including U.S. Section 232 measures and tariffs on Mexican steel and vehicle exports.
Beyond U.S.-Mexico relations, Ebrard announced plans for Mexican trade missions to Europe in spring 2027 to modernize the treaty with the European Union, as well as a mission to Canada to expand export opportunities.
