Mexico announces 25 billion peso water plan for Ecatepec

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has announced an ambitious infrastructure plan to address water shortages in the Valley of Mexico, specifically targeting the eastern region and Ecatepec. The initiative, known as the Plan Integral Oriente, involves an estimated investment of approximately 25 billion pesos.

Key components of the plan include the rehabilitation of the Guadalupe Lake, improvements to major water pipelines, the upgrading of distribution networks, and the enhancement of various wells. Sheinbaum reported that 24 previously non-operational wells in Ecatepec have already been restored to service by the National Water Commission (Conagua).

The President emphasized the coordination between federal, state, and municipal governments, specifically noting the collaboration with Ecatepec Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss. The project aims to expand water access to several areas facing scarcity, including Iztapalapa, Gustavo A. Madero, and Tlalpan in Mexico City, as well as other municipalities in the State of Mexico.
