Mexico announces police pay raises in Coahuila and Ahome municipalities

The government of the state of Coahuila plans to raise the base salary of all state police officers to 18,000 Mexican pesos by November 2029, which would place the force eighth in the national ranking of best‑paid state police. Secretary of Public Security Hugo Eduardo Gutiérrez Rodríguez said the current lowest base salary is 16,000 pesos and the increase will be phased in gradually over the remainder of the governor’s term.

In the municipality of Ahome, Sinaloa, Mayor Antonio Menéndez announced an 8% annual salary increase for municipal police that will start in the next two weeks. The raise, described by the mayor as “a little of what they deserve,” will cost about 25 million pesos for the administration and exceeds the 4.51% annual inflation rate. He also noted the delivery of five new patrol vehicles and the creation of a specialized unit to address family‑violence and sexual‑offense cases.
