Mexico authorities address rising feminicide concerns in Jalisco and Sinaloa

Authorities in Mexico are addressing rising concerns regarding gender-based violence and feminicides in different regions.

In Zapotlán el Grande, Jalisco, there is growing scrutiny over the capacity of local authorities to prevent and investigate the deaths of women. Recent incidents include a 33-year-old woman found dead near the Guadalajara-Colima highway in August 2026, and a previous case in September 2025. While one high-profile case in July 2026 resulted in the arrest of Manuel Salvador “N” for the asphyxiation of his partner, critics argue that many other deaths, including those of an elderly woman and a minor, have lacked sufficient investigative progress or public updates.

In Sinaloa, State Attorney General Claudia Zulema Sánchez Kondo led a working meeting in the Southern Regional Vice-Prosecutor's Office to review ongoing investigations into feminicides recorded during 2026, specifically in Mazatlán and Escuinapa. The meeting focused on analyzing investigative files and identifying common patterns or circumstances between different cases to improve the clarity of the facts and the effectiveness of the legal proceedings.
