Atizapán de Zaragoza: Two detained in murder of Camilo Séptimo musician and family

Authorities in Mexico have detained two suspects following the brutal multi-homicide of Jonathan Meléndez Ochoa, a founding member and keyboardist of the synth-pop band Camilo Séptimo, and several members of his family. The crime occurred on September 1, 2026, in a residential complex in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico.

The victims included Meléndez, his wife Ana Paola (who was four months pregnant), their three-year-old daughter, and a 21-year-old domestic worker. The attackers also killed the family dog. A six-year-old son of the couple was found alive and unharmed in the home. Reports indicate the victims were found bound with tape and had sustained gunshot wounds.

Two men are in custody: Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini, a 51-year-old Argentine businessman and business partner of Meléndez, and Gerardo ‘N’. Investigators believe the suspects leveraged a relationship of trust to gain access to the residence without forcing entry. While robbery is a primary line of investigation, authorities are also examining potential motives related to commercial disputes. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed condolences and pledged federal support for the investigation.
