Mexico CNPC clarifies emergency backpack campaign is preventive
The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) in Mexico has issued a clarification regarding the “Emergency Backpack” campaign. The agency stated that the dissemination of these recommendations is part of permanent, routine prevention and self-protection strategies and does not indicate an imminent disaster or any specific international alert.
The clarification follows social media speculation that linked the campaign to potential global catastrophes or international warnings. The CNPC emphasized that these materials are distributed periodically in coordination with state authorities to encourage families to organize a Civil Protection Plan and identify essential items for survival during the first 72 hours of an emergency, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and rely only on official government channels to avoid misinformation and panic.
