Migrant caravan moves through Mexico toward U.S. border

The ‘Fe y Esperanza’ migrant caravan, consisting of approximately 600 individuals from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Haiti, is currently traveling north through Mexico toward the United States border. The group departed from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20 and entered Mexico via the Rodolfo Robles international bridge in Chiapas on September 25.

U.S. border official Tom Homan has issued a stern warning to the group, stating that the border remains closed and that migrants attempting to enter illegally will be turned around, arrested, prosecuted, or deported. Homan also noted that the administration may utilize third-country removal if home nations delay accepting their citizens.

The movement has sparked political debate in the United States. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested the caravan is not an organic movement but is linked to upcoming elections. Meanwhile, some observers suggest migrants are moving in anticipation of potential shifts in immigration policy following the November midterm elections.
