Mexico boosts youth sports with Metepec basketball/volleyball courses and Toluca soccer team competing in Japan
The municipal government of Metepec announced free basketball and volleyball courses for children aged 8 to 14 in the Las Marinas neighborhood, scheduled for early August at the local sports complex. Registrations require a parent’s ID, a child’s photo and CURP, and can be submitted at the community office between July 19 and 31.
Separately, a team of 13 boys and girls from Toluca traveled to Japan to take part in an international youth football tournament in Saitama. The trip was funded by Toluca’s mayor and the municipal government as part of the sister‑city program that began in 1979. The Toluca side has remained unbeaten, playing five matches and winning each, and will conclude the event with a friendly match against local families.
Both initiatives reflect Mexican local authorities’ efforts to promote sports participation and cultural exchange for young people.
