Youth sports development in Mexico and Ecuador

In July 2026, the provincial government of Tungurahua, Ecuador, partnered with the University Indoamérica to launch an 80‑hour sports training workshop for coaches, teachers and sports leaders, emphasizing health, education and social inclusion for young athletes. Simultaneously in Tamaulipas, Mexico, athlete Juan Daniel “Juanito” Mascorro began a daily athletics training group for children, focusing on track‑and‑field fundamentals and inclusive sport for youths with Down syndrome.

Later that month, Mexican municipalities expanded the push for youth sport. The town of Metepec announced free basketball and volleyball courses for children aged 8–14, while the city of Toluca sent a mixed‑gender youth football team to Japan to compete in an international tournament, highlighting cultural exchange alongside athletic development. Together the initiatives illustrate a continued, region‑wide effort to increase participation, talent development and community benefits through organized youth sports programs in both Mexico and Ecuador.
