The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) issued an alert for extreme heat and torrential rains expected across Mexico on 6‑7 August 2026. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) forecast rainfall totals of 75‑150 mm in Oaxaca and 50‑75 mm in states such as Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Puebla, Guerrero, Veracruz and Yucatán, with lower amounts elsewhere. Temperatures above 45 °C are projected for Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, while many other regions will see highs of 35‑40 °C.

Authorities have activated a red alert for the Mexico City boroughs of La Magdalena Contreras and Tlalpan, warning of 50‑70 mm of rain and possible hail. The Permanent Commission of the Senate urged CNPC, SMN and Conagua to implement preventive actions, including checks on shelters, hospitals and evacuation routes. Municipal crews in Culiacán cleared 44 drainage grids and 229 storm drains to keep waterways clear. The tropical wave 25 is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to Morelos on the same day. The heat index in Mazatlán could reach 42 °C, heightening health risks.
