Mexico faces extreme heat and heavy rains as tropical waves hit

Mexico's National Water Commission (Conagua) warned of persistent low‑pressure systems and tropical waves bringing intense rain to Veracruz, Tamaulipas and surrounding basins, with localized downpours of 25‑50 mm expected Thursday and lighter showers elsewhere. A broad forecast predicts strong to very strong rains across Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Veracruz and other states, accompanied by lightning, possible hail and wind gusts up to 70 km/h, raising flood and landslide risks. The heat wave will push temperatures above 40 °C in north‑western regions, with maximums of 45 °C projected for Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Durango, while Chihuahua city may reach 39‑42 °C.

In the Dominican Republic, high temperatures of 31‑33 °C and Sahara dust will dominate, while a tropical wave and a mid‑level trough bring scattered showers, thunderstorms and isolated gusty winds to eastern and central provinces, easing later in the day.
