Mexico braces for severe 'Black Storm' with torrential rain and hail

A powerful weather system dubbed “Tormenta Negra” is set to hit Mexico in the coming days, delivering rainfall exceeding 70 mm per hour, strong winds and hail. The storm is driven by an unusual clash of off‑season cold fronts, tropical waves and low‑pressure channels that have drawn moisture from both oceans.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) identified the states most likely to experience the heaviest impacts: Chiapas, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Puebla, Nuevo León, Coahuila and Chihuahua. Civil protection authorities warned of imminent flash‑flood danger in urban areas, landslides in mountainous regions and rapidly rising river and stream levels.

The same storm warning appeared alongside other local news, including the recent discovery of an elderly man lost in the Maya jungle, but the primary focus remains the nationwide weather threat.
