Mexico Chamber of Deputies approves legislative calendar for 2027 budget discussions

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has approved the legislative calendar for the first period of the LXVI Legislature, covering September through December 2026. A central focus of this period will be the discussion and approval of the 2027 Economic Package, with deadlines set for the Revenue Law by October 20 and the Expenditure Budget by November 15.

Regarding the 2027 budget, Fabiola Alanís emphasized that the upcoming discussions aim to guarantee resources for social programs, including pensions for seniors and students, noting that current welfare investments reach 42 million citizens. In Michoacán, state treasurer Luis Navarro reported that the government has allocated nearly 10 billion pesos to the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) between 2021 and 2026.

Political activity in Michoacán remains intense ahead of the 2027 elections. Gladyz Butanda Macías called for unity within the Fourth Transformation movement to defend social rights, while PRI leader Memo Valencia warned that Morena’s internal polling suggests a decline for its allies, the PT and PVEM, and advocated for an opposition alliance.

Other regional developments include a proposal in Veracruz by the PVEM to strengthen welfare regulations for animal shelters, and reports from Michoacán showing an 8.7 percent increase in air passengers during the first eight months of 2026. Additionally, the Carlos Slim Foundation and Warner Chappell Music have partnered to promote organ donation awareness in Mexico.
