Ciudad Juárez activists protest political propaganda over memorial mural

In Ciudad Juárez, activist mothers from collectives such as ‘Justicia para Nuestras Hijas’ are protesting after political propaganda was painted over a memorial mural. The mural, created in 2019, featured the faces of 16 women and girls who were victims of femicide or disappearance. Activists, including Perla Reyes and Norma Laguna, expressed outrage that the symbolic artwork—located near a secondary school—was covered by political messaging related to the Morena party and candidate Omar García Palomares. The mothers are demanding that the images be restored to honor the memory of their daughters.

In Mexico City, artist Adriana González Camarena, granddaughter of muralist Jorge González Camarena, has called for a ‘human chain’ to support victims of property dispossession. This follows a legal operation by the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office regarding her family's estate, which she claims was subsequently re-entered by third parties.
