Mexico City Grand Prix targets economic boost and contract renewal
The 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix, scheduled for October 30 to November 1 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, is projected to generate an economic impact of approximately 22.2 billion pesos. According to the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco CDMX), this represents a 6.5% increase over 2025 estimates. Key revenue drivers include ticket sales, estimated at 8.4 billion pesos, and significant demand in the hospitality, gastronomy, and transportation sectors.
Organizers are also focused on securing the event's future beyond the current contract, which expires in 2028. Federico González Compeán, General Director of the Mexico City Grand Prix, stated that negotiations with Liberty Media could begin between late 2026 and early 2027. Unlike some European circuits that utilize alternating biennial schedules, Mexican organizers aim to maintain an annual race to preserve the complex year-round logistics and workforce required for the event.
In preparation for upcoming editions, 202 million pesos are being invested in maintenance and remodeling of the circuit to ensure it retains its FIA Grade 1 homologation. Additionally, the event recently honored motorsport figures Marco Tolama and Alfonso Toledano by inducting them into the Mexican Motor Sport Wall of Honor.
