Mexico City Hoy No Circula program lifts restrictions as State of Mexico issues vehicle verification schedule

On Sunday 26 July 2026 the Hoy No Circula program in Mexico City and the surrounding megapolis announces that all vehicles may circulate. Electric and hybrid cars, as well as those displaying zero or double‑zero holograms and vehicles with disability, emergency, funeral or public‑transport plates, are exempt from any restriction.

The measure seeks to reduce air‑pollution levels across the Mexico City metropolitan area, which includes the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala, and continues to rely on periodic vehicle verification to enforce emissions standards.

The State of Mexico has published its 2026 verification tariffs: hologram 00 – 1,197 MXN, hologram 0 – 610 MXN, holograms 1 and 2 – 469 MXN, exempt categories free, voluntary exempt 630 MXN. Verification periods are assigned by plate‑ending colors, e.g., yellow (5‑6) July‑August with a deadline of 31 August; pink (7‑8) August‑September, deadline 30 September; red (3‑4) September‑October, deadline 31 October; green (1‑2) October‑November, deadline 30 November; blue (9‑0) November‑December, deadline 31 December. Drivers who miss the deadline can face fines up to 3,519 MXN.
