Mexico City issues red weather alert for heavy rain and hail

The Mexico City Civil Protection agency activated a Red Alert for the boroughs of Coyoacán and Tlalpan due to persistent heavy rain and the risk of hail on the afternoon and night of June 12, 2026. Forecasted rainfall is 50‑70 mm with possible hail, prompting warnings of flooding, strong water currents, landslides, and falling debris.

A Yellow Alert was maintained for several other boroughs—Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, Cuajimalpa, Gustavo A. Madero, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Milpa Alta, and Xochimilco—where rain of 15‑29 mm is expected. Authorities advised residents to avoid crossing streets with flowing water, stay away from trees, protect vulnerable groups, secure important documents, and follow official updates on social media.
