Mexico City official faces investigation after Escandón building collapse

Deputy Víctor Hugo Romo has announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office following a structural collapse during the demolition of the Minería 145 building in the Escandón neighborhood.

Romo is calling for an investigation into the actions of Miguel Hidalgo Mayor Mauricio Tabe and Government Director César Garrido. He alleges the incident is linked to suspected irregularities involving a ‘real estate cartel’ in the municipality. The deputy questioned how a demolition of this scale was authorized and supervised, noting that the collapse spilled materials onto the Viaducto highway.

Records indicate that the Miguel Hidalgo administration had issued a special demolition license for the site, which is owned by Raíces Houston, S. A. de C. V. Romo emphasized that because the authorities were aware of the project and granted the necessary permits, they must be held accountable for ensuring the work was conducted safely and legally.
