Mexico City: Seven arrested after assault on police in Centro Histórico

Seven individuals were arrested in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City following an assault on law enforcement officers in the Centro Histórico. The incident occurred near the intersection of Madero and Motolinía streets while officers from the Subsecretaría de Control de Tránsito were conducting an operation to remove illegally parked motorcycles from public spaces.

During the operation, a group of people allegedly attacked two police officers and a private security guard who had stepped in to assist. Video footage showed the officers being knocked to the ground and struck. Emergency medical services from ERUM provided aid at the scene, and two of the injured individuals were transported to a hospital for specialized care.

Mexico City Head of Government Clara Brugada Molina condemned the violence, stating that the administration will not permit violence as a response to law enforcement. Security Secretary Pablo Vázquez Camacho confirmed that authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to identify additional participants. The seven detainees, aged between 21 and 29, have been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry to determine their legal status.
