Police assaults in Mexico City

Overview

A series of violent confrontations involving law enforcement in Mexico City has emerged during various municipal operations.

In late September, police in the Venustiano Carranza borough engaged in a high-speed chase with two motorcyclists. During the pursuit, the suspects reportedly sprayed fire extinguisher powder at officers to evade capture. The chase ended when one suspect fled into a building with the assistance of a group of people, allowing the individuals to remain at large.

In early October, a separate incident occurred in the Centro Histórico during a traffic enforcement operation to remove illegally parked motorcycles. A group of people allegedly attacked two police officers and a private security guard, knocking them to the ground. Following this assault, seven individuals between the ages of 21 and 29 were arrested. Local government officials condemned the violence, stating that the administration will not permit violence as a response to law enforcement.
