Mexico City upgrades Hospital General Xoco emergency department with advanced technology

Mexico City’s government has completed a comprehensive modernization of the emergency area at Hospital General Xoco. The upgrade includes a fully digitalized "smart" operating room, a new high‑specialty trauma shock room and a portable, state‑of‑the‑art CT scanner. These facilities are intended to speed up treatment, lower surgical risks and improve outcomes for critical patients, especially those without health insurance.

Clara Brugada Molina, head of the Mexico City government, said the investment reinforces public‑health services and affirms health as a right, not a commodity. The modernized emergency department now serves more than 44,000 patients annually and is positioned as one of the most technologically advanced public hospitals in Latin America.

The project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the capital’s health infrastructure, which also includes adding 25 fully equipped ambulances and expanding community health programs.
