Mexico City’s Tlalpan district hit by severe flooding

Intense rain on Friday triggered an orange weather alert for the Tlalpan borough of Mexico City, flooding streets and turning several avenues into rivers. Neighborhoods such as Santa Úrsula Xitla, Textitlán and Miguel Hidalgo Tercera Sección recorded water depths of 80‑100 cm, with some streets reaching 50 cm, causing vehicles to become stranded and homes to be inundated.

The Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana and the civil‑protection agency closed portions of Calzada de Tlalpan, Insurgentes Sur and the Picacho‑Ajusco corridor, and deployed teams to pump out water and clear drainage. Residents were urged to avoid flooded areas, not to cross strong currents, and to follow alerts from the early‑warning system as rain persisted through the night.
