Mexico Civil Protection promotes emergency preparedness campaign

The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) in Mexico has launched a social campaign encouraging citizens to prepare emergency backpacks. The agency clarified that this is a routine prevention and self-protection initiative rather than a response to any imminent disaster or international alerts.

Following social media speculation linking the campaign to potential wars or large-scale natural disasters, authorities emphasized that these guides are distributed periodically to foster a culture of preparedness. The goal is to help families identify environmental risks and establish family plans.

According to recommendations from the National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED), an emergency backpack should contain supplies to cover basic needs for approximately 72 hours. Essential items include bottled water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, a portable radio, batteries, a first aid kit, medications, personal hygiene items, clothing, cash, copies of important documents, a whistle, and contact numbers. Specific items for children, seniors, people with disabilities, and pets are also recommended.
