Mexico Civil Protection Urges Precautions Ahead of Heavy Weekend Rainfall

The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) of Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Protection Citizens issued a warning ahead of an intense rain system expected this Saturday. Forecasts call for 75–150 mm of rain in eastern Nayarit, northern Jalisco and southern Zacatecas, with 50–75 mm in parts of Sinaloa, Durango, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Colima, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas, and lower amounts across many other states. Residents are advised to keep drainage channels clear, avoid crossing rivers or low‑lying flood‑prone areas, stay indoors during thunderstorms and be ready to follow evacuation routes to temporary shelters.

In the municipality of Frontera, Coahuila, local authorities reported only minimal rain (about two mm) and no damage to homes or infrastructure. The mayor and the municipal Protection Civil office continue to monitor weather conditions and conduct patrols in areas historically prone to water accumulation, urging citizens to stay informed through official channels. Both the national and local agencies emphasize preventive action and rapid response to protect communities from potential flooding.
