Mexico conducts tsunami and earthquake emergency drills

Authorities in Mexico have conducted emergency drills to prepare for seismic and tsunami events in different coastal regions.

In Topolobampo, Sinaloa, the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) through the Eighth Naval Zone, carried out a simulation of a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. The exercise involved 409 naval personnel and included the activation of alarm systems, suspension of operations, simulated personnel rescue, and the deployment of specialized brigades to evaluate response times.

Simultaneously, in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, authorities from municipal, state, and federal levels conducted a tsunami drill in the main bay. The exercise involved the Santa María Colotepec municipality, civil protection agencies, the Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard. The goal of these coordinated efforts is to strengthen response protocols and reinforce a culture of prevention among the population and strategic infrastructure.
