Mexico construction sector drives prefabricated housing boom and workplace awards

Mexico’s construction industry is rapidly expanding its use of prefabricated housing. Modular and industrialized building methods are cutting project timelines by up to 40%, reducing material waste to under 1% and meeting strict building regulations. Regions such as Sonora are adopting steel and lightweight concrete modules to improve thermal efficiency in harsh desert climates.

The sector contributed about 8.5% of the national GDP in 2025 and supports more than 3.8 million direct jobs, roughly 7.8% of the workforce. Great Place To Work® recognized 15 construction firms in its 2026 “Best Places to Work” list, drawing responses from 3,685 employees and highlighting trust, leadership and safety as key factors.

Both developments reflect broader growth driven by nearshoring investments, new industrial projects and a 6.2% average annual expansion between 2021 and 2025.
