Although domestic EV usage remains low, the country is a highly competitive supplier of parts to major U.S. manufacturers like Tesla and Lucid, holding a 44.73 percent share of global auto part imports to the U.S. in the first half of 2026. To ensure origin and quality, the industry is adopting traceability systems such as CATENA-X. Efforts to foster domestic innovation include the Olinia project, which has introduced a prototype for the first Mexican-made electric car to promote technological sovereignty. Manufacturing and technology integration are accelerating rapidly. Driven by U.S. investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and trade tensions between the U.S. and China, Mexican exports of machinery—specifically computers and data processing equipment—have doubled to an annual value of approximately $200 billion, according to BBVA Mexico. Mexico surpassed China in 2025 as the primary provider of advanced technology products to the United States. Recent data highlights this momentum, with merchandise exports reaching a record $81.42 billion in July, a 43.7% year-over-year increase. This surge was largely propelled by non-automotive manufacturing, which rose 64.9% and accounted for roughly 73% of total exports, fueled by demand for computer and electronic equipment for U.S. AI infrastructure. In Jalisco, the high-tech industry aims for export growth exceeding $100 billion by 2030, contingent on expanding production capacity and a specialized workforce of approximately 200,000 employees.
