Mexico customs revenue rises in July amid increased tax fines

Mexico's customs revenue reached 131,616 million pesos in July, marking the highest monthly figure for 2026 and a 5.4 percent increase compared to the same month last year. The National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) attributed this growth to improved operational efficiency and strengthened oversight to combat illegal trade. Despite the July uptick, cumulative revenue from January to July totaled 791,009 million pesos, which is 45,799.9 million pesos less than the 836,808.9 million pesos recorded during the same period in 2025.

In a separate trend of increased fiscal enforcement, the Tax Administration Service (SAT) reported a 103.28 percent increase in revenue from tax fines during the first half of 2026. The SAT collected 24,813 million pesos in penalties between January and June, up from 12,215 million pesos in the same period of 2025. This surge is linked to enhanced technological surveillance and expanded oversight of taxpayer operations, particularly regarding foreign trade regulations and tax corrections.
