Mexico establishes scientific council to combat Cattle Screwworm
The Mexican government has established a Technical-Scientific Council to bolster the National Strategy against the Cattle Screwworm (GBG). This initiative, led by the Secretariats of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA) and Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), aims to protect livestock and national food supplies.
The strategy marks a transition from a temporary emergency response to a permanent national campaign covering all 32 Mexican states. The council will integrate scientific research, including biotechnology and artificial intelligence, to improve surveillance, early detection, and eradication methods. Senasica will continue to manage the sanitary campaign in coordination with state governments, academia, and the productive sector.
