Mexico expands education programs for inmates in Colima and at‑risk youth in Tlaxcala

The State Institute for Adult Education (IEEA) in Colima awarded basic education certificates to 22 male inmates at the Cereso Varonil, including 19 primary and three secondary level diplomas. The ceremony was led by IEEA director Guillermo Toscano Reyes along with prison officials, highlighting the role of education in reducing recidivism.

In Tlaxcala, the State System for Integral Family Development (SEDIF) reported that its three Centros de Asistencia Social now serve 91 children and adolescents, with 37 receiving vocational training in trades such as baking, barbering, and IT. The program also provides shelter, meals, health care, and specialized support for migrants and disabled youths, aiming to restore rights and promote autonomy.

Both initiatives are part of broader Mexican public‑policy efforts to extend schooling and skills development to vulnerable populations, seeking to improve future opportunities and social reintegration.
