Mexico expands higher education capacity and scholarship programs

Mexico's Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, has highlighted several key initiatives aimed at expanding educational access and support across the country. During a ceremony for 1,125 graduates of the Universidad Abierta y a Distancia de México (UnADM), Delgado announced that the institution will offer 5,000 new spaces this year. This expansion aligns with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's national strategy to create over 300,000 new higher education positions.

In a separate event in the State of Mexico, Delgado reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to the National Scholarship System, which supports 22 million students from preschool through higher education. He noted the completion of deposits for the Rita Cetina Scholarship, a program providing supplies and uniforms to nearly 10 million primary school students.

Additionally, in collaboration with Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, the government formalized the 'Mexiquense en el Extranjero' scholarship program. With an investment of 200 million pesos, the program will support 865 students and 45 teachers in academic stays in countries including Canada, Ireland, England, Malta, Spain, Norway, China, and Chile. The scholarships focus on English language proficiency and technical training in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Digital Transformation.
