Mexico expands education infrastructure and scholarship aid

Overview

By early September 2026, Mexican authorities continued to expand youth empowerment and educational support through infrastructure investments, scholarship programs, and organized enrollment processes. In the State of Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez advanced the ‘Plan Oriente’ initiative, completing six new technological high schools in various municipalities to provide capacity for 8,910 students in specialized fields.

In Michoacán, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla has maintained a focus on comprehensive educational support and fiscal stability. The state administration has guaranteed the payment of salaries and benefits for the teaching workforce throughout the 2026 fiscal year, marking five consecutive years of uninterrupted school cycles. The Secretary of Education has also integrated 560 new teachers across 75 municipalities. To further support students, the state continues to provide universal scholarships from basic education through undergraduate levels. Additionally, the ‘D4TA Datos Gratis’ program is offering free internet access to students and teachers, with registration scheduled to close on September 4.

Furthering infrastructure improvements, Welfare Secretary Laura Artemisa García Chávez announced that over 289 million pesos have been invested in 1,594 Community Work projects. These funds target the maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, roofing, and dining areas to improve learning environments. This initiative, supported by Governor Alejandro Armenta, emphasizes community-led identification of needs to dignify public institutions as the 2026-2027 school year begins.
