Mexico expands judicial access with mobile caravans and remote divorce hearings

The State of Mexico's judicial authority deployed a mobile "Caravanas Itinerantes" service in Santa María Rayón, bringing courts directly to residents. Coordinated by Dr. María Elena Pons Escalera under the direction of Magistrate President Héctor Macedo García, the caravan offered identity procedures, concubinage registration and mutual‑consent divorces, reducing travel costs and speeding up case resolution.

In Michoacán, a family judge in Uruapan adapted a divorce proceeding by holding the hearing inside the local correctional facility where one of the spouses was detained. The judge’s decision ensured the parties could exercise their right to a prompt, free divorce despite the incarceration, and the marriage was formally dissolved.

Both actions illustrate state courts’ efforts to remove barriers and provide more immediate, accessible justice to Mexican citizens.
