Mexico expands Sembrando Vida agricultural program in Cuba

The second phase of the Mexican agricultural cooperation initiative, ‘Sembrando Vida’, has expanded across several Cuban provinces, including Holguín, Ciego de Ávila, and Las Tunas. The program aims to support approximately 1,500 farmers in each of these regions by providing essential supplies, high-quality seeds, modern machinery, agricultural technology, and technical training.

Spearheaded by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), the project focuses on social welfare, food self-sufficiency, and sustainable development. The initiative involves the transfer of productive resources to bolster local livestock and crop production. In Holguín, the rollout specifically targets the municipalities of Calixto García, Báguanos, and Cacocum.

The program is funded by 588 million Mexican pesos—exceeding 34 million USD—secured through a donation agreement involving Bancomext, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AMEXCID, and Banco del Bienestar. The second phase of the project is scheduled to span eight Cuban provinces in total.
