Mexico-Cuba Sembrando Vida agricultural cooperation

Overview

Mexico has initiated the second phase of the ‘Sembrando Vida’ cooperation project in Cuba, managed by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid). The program initially targeted agricultural producers in the central provinces of Ciego de Ávila and Sancti Spíritus, with the goal of benefiting 1,500 farmers in each territory through technical training, seeds, and machinery to increase crop production by an estimated 50 to 80 percent.

The initiative has since expanded to include the provinces of Holguín and Las Tunas, with specific implementation in the Holguín municipalities of Calixto García, Báguanos, and Cacocum. The project is funded by 588 million Mexican pesos (exceeding 34 million USD) via a donation agreement involving Bancomext, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amexcid, and Banco del Bienestar. The second phase is intended to eventually span eight Cuban provinces.
