Mexico faces cold front with temperature drops up to 6°C

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued an alert for an incoming cold front that could lower maximum temperatures by up to six degrees Celsius across parts of Mexico. The agency warned that the sharp decline may extend the feeling of cold for many hours, affecting outdoor work and daily life.

Energy demand is expected to rise as residential heating usage typically increases during such events. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) said it is in contact with distributors to assess possible generation adjustments, stating “Estamos en contacto con distribuidores para evaluar posibles ajustes en la generación.” The Secretariat of Health reminded vulnerable groups—children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses—to take extra precautions. Banxico highlighted that transport fuel consumption and sensitive crops such as corn and wheat could be adversely affected, while construction activity may slow. An analyst from the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (CEESP) emphasized the importance of supply‑chain planning, noting “La planificación es clave en estos casos.”
