Mexico faces heavy rains and strong winds as tropical waves cross

The national weather service forecasts intense, localized rain across many Mexican states on July 2‑3 2026. Heavy downpours are expected in Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa, Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Guerrero and Oaxaca, with additional showers and strong rain in most other regions. The activity is linked to tropical wave 14, which will move over southern Mexico, and wave 15 approaching the southeast.

Wind speeds of 20‑30 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h are anticipated in several states, and the storms may bring lightning, hail, flooding, landslides, fallen trees and reduced road visibility. Temperatures in the north‑west will remain very hot, reaching 40‑45 °C in areas such as Baja California, Chihuahua and Sinaloa.
