Mexico federal housing program faces high demand and limited availability

The federal Vivienda para el Bienestar housing program is experiencing significant demand that exceeds available supply in several Mexican regions. In Piedras Negras, Coahuila, a recent public draw resulted in only 96 individuals being selected from an initial pool of 600 applicants. Local officials noted that these 96 spaces represent the total number of homes available through the National Housing Commission (CONAVI) until 2026.

In the Poza Rica region of Veracruz, authorities have scheduled an informative assembly to address the allocation of 2,600 housing credits across 15 municipalities. Due to high demand, these credits will be distributed via a lottery system. In five other municipalities, the allocation will be handled through direct registration. Local leaders in Coatzintla and Poza Rica are reportedly seeking additional land to expand housing options for residents.
