Mexico federal judge suspends trial in Dafne Zapata case

A federal judge in Tamaulipas, Mexico, has issued a definitive suspension regarding the trial of Danna Yanina N, an 18-year-old linked to the alleged feminicide of 13-year-old Dafne Zapata in Ciudad Madero.

The suspension halts the trial proceedings while a federal court reviews an amparo lawsuit filed by the defense. The defense argues that there were violations of due process and human rights during the initial legal proceedings. The judge will review hearing videos and official reports to resolve the matter. This measure does not declare the accused innocent, nor does it automatically grant her release from detention, as her freedom remains subject to current precautionary measures and the final federal ruling.

Zapata died after spending several days at the Doenitz Naval Militarized Academy camp. Danna Yanina was detained in July 2026 and was allegedly acting as an assistant to an instructor during the period in question.
