Mexican federal prosecutors assume investigation of kidnapped journalist Roxana Guzmán

Journalist Roxana Guzmán, director of the online outlet Pulso Informativo del Sureste, was forcibly taken from her home in Nanchital, Veracruz on 2 June 2026. The kidnapping was captured on video as armed men shattered the door, assaulted family members and abducted her.

The State Attorney of Veracruz, Lisbeth Aurelia Jiménez Aguirre, announced that the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) exercised its legal faculty of attraction and transferred the case to the specialized unit for crimes against freedom of expression. The investigation now lies with the FGR’s Fiscalía Especializada para la Atención de Delitos contra la Libertad de Expresión. Jiménez confirmed that no arrests have been made, stating “No hay detenidos”. Two lines of inquiry remain open, focusing on the journalist’s professional activity and her social environment.

Federal forces, including the Secretariat of the Navy, the National Guard and state police, continue active searches in the coastal region of Veracruz. The state prosecutor stressed that the transfer does not end local efforts and that coordination between state and federal authorities will persist until Guzmán is located alive.
