Mexico festival chaos: Firework malfunction injures 13

A traditional festival in San Jerónimo Cuatro Vientos, located in Ixtapaluca, Mexico, turned chaotic on Sunday night when a firework display malfunctioned. During a celebration honoring a local patron saint, a 'torito'—a traditional bull-shaped firework structure—became uncontrolled.

Witnesses reported a glowing red object spinning and spraying sparks before hurtling toward the crowd. The malfunction caused immediate panic among the hundreds of attendees, including many families and children. The sudden explosions and flying sparks forced a band to stop performing and sent spectators fleeing the square.

At least 13 people, including children, were confirmed injured. Reported injuries include first and second-degree burns, bruising, and suspected fractures. Emergency services were deployed to the scene following the incident.
