Mexico forest police dismantle nine illegal charcoal ovens near Malinche National Park

Forest police from the State Forestry Corps in Mexico destroyed nine clandestine charcoal ovens in the communities of San Miguel Canoa and San Miguel Espejo, areas bordering Parque Nacional Malinche. The operation also seized a large quantity of recently felled timber and 60 kg of finished charcoal, which were intended for illegal distribution in the capital region.

Separately, the Secretariat of Ecology and Environmental Management (Segam) reported receiving citizen complaints about unauthorized timber harvesting in the Zona Media near Cerritos. These reports have been forwarded to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) for investigation. Local ejidatarios have voiced opposition to the illicit logging and are pursuing the creation of protected natural areas in nearby villages such as Villa Hidalgo.
