Mexico funds free eye surgery and cancer radiotherapy in Zapopan, Tabasco

In Zapopan, Jalisco, the municipal health department announced an additional 4.5 million pesos to the Hospitalito program, which has already invested more than 9 million pesos to perform 931 free cataract surgeries. The new funding will strengthen equipment at the Centro de Oftalmología de Cruz Verde Sur, increasing capacity for the 1,445 patients currently enrolled for free eye‑surgery, lenses, and follow‑up care.

In Tabasco, the state and federal governments inaugurated a 100 million‑peso linear accelerator at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad “Dr. Juan Graham Casasús”. The device provides free radiotherapy for cancer patients from Tabasco and neighboring states, treating three to five patients daily and expanding to other specialties. Hospital director Heriberto Tosca Córdova noted the equipment’s modern technology, while oncologist Sergio Armando Vidal López said, “With this apparatus we can treat in less time and protect healthy tissue around the tumor.” The service is free for beneficiaries of IMSS‑Bienestar, IMSS, PEMEX and the Tabasco state health system.
