Mexico hosting of 2026 World Cup met with high satisfaction and pride

A post-tournament study by Ipsos reveals that 71% of Mexicans are satisfied with Mexico hosting the 2026 World Cup, and 77% view the event as a source of national pride. While initial concerns centered on security, inflation, and public resource management, the actual experience was viewed positively on an emotional level. Approximately 80% of respondents felt the tournament helped connect Mexicans, and 84% believed it boosted international tourism. However, public perception of FIFA remains negative for 70% of those surveyed.

In a related cultural reaction, Argentine actor Marcelo Córdoba commented on the intense hostility directed toward the Argentine national team by Mexican fans during the tournament. Córdoba suggested that the football event provided an excuse for existing resentment toward Argentines to surface, noting that while certain attitudes can be polarizing, such generalizations are unfair.
