Mexico implements industrial and audiovisual investment incentives
Mexico is implementing strategic industrial and fiscal policies to drive economic growth and domestic production. Under the 'Plan México' industrial strategy introduced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the government has approved 148 out of 173 reviewed investment projects for new fixed assets. These projects, spanning sectors such as automotive, agroindustry, pharmaceuticals, and logistics, represent approximately $987.5 million in investments.
Simultaneously, the government is targeting the audiovisual sector with new incentives to attract global production. The scheme offers a tax incentive of up to 30% of income tax on spending within the country for audiovisual projects, capped at 40 million pesos per project, provided at least 70% of the supply chain is national. Major studios including Netflix, Disney, and Apple TV+ have engaged with Mexican authorities as part of these efforts. Netflix has specifically committed $2 million to modernize the Churubusco Studios.
These initiatives coincide with reported growth in employment and wages. As of July 2026, Mexico recorded over 22.7 million affiliated workers at the Mexican Social Security Institute, with a significant portion of new jobs being permanent positions.
